Who said you shouldn’t chase waterfalls? June 28, 2011

With the roof mostly installed and the inside waterfall gone what could be a better project than making an outside waterfall?  We installed a pond on a whim one summer.  We do a lot of things on a whim, which then mostly get finished, but have been talking about a waterfall, well, a real waterfall for the pond for sometime.  We have had a little tub, with a lip, sitting in various locations for the past year, the latest spot for it was on an overturned garbage can.  The waterfall sounded wonderful but didn’t look all that great.

My grand plan was to use all the broken bricks, from knocking out a brick entertainment center, chicken wire and cement and make a beautiful fake rock waterfall.  Hubby had a completely different plan that involved retaining wall blocks and a stock tank.  To say the least, I was a TAD bit disappointed, pouting may have occurred.

With the pouting fit out of the way, I could finally see my hubby’s vision, and got on board with it.  It did help that he told me we would still make rocks. Then we had the big task of finding a vessel to make the water actually fall.  We talked about getting one of those preformed waterfall trays, or liner or even another little tub.  It was late afternoon, I was pooped, didn’t wanna go shopping so I wandered around thinking about what we had that we could use.  Actually, I was still pouting at this point, and the wandering helped get over it.   I was hoping to find some beautiful, forgotten about ceramic/clay piece.  Nope, this is what I found  isn’t he beautiful? tiki planter Actually, that is his brother, I didn’t think to take a pic until now.

I had jokingly said, what if we had the water come out his nose, you think that would work?  Instead of saying, that is a horrible idea, which I half hoped he would, he pulled out his drill, dug out the poor tiki’s nose and then used the hose on him.  The poor tiki had gone from planter to waterfall in five minutes.

The waterfall is still in its dry run phase.  Poor tiki needs a hole in his back, a hose to the stock tank, and we still need another waterfall from the filter tank to the stock tank and several more retaining wall blocks.  Who’s idea was this waterfall anyway?

“It was luxuries like air conditioning that brought down the Roman Empire” June 22, 2011

So several years ago my hubby wanted to change our sun room into a bar, it turned into a tiki bar which we all enjoy but he decided he wanted a/c in it this year, which is all fine and dandy except for our house doesn’t have a/c.  Well, it does, but does not work right.  Being tired of not enjoying the hot summers, I saw this as a great opportunity to better improve my enjoyment of the hot summers.  Seeing how not having a miserable wife for the summer, hubby agreed to install a window unit in our dining room.  Now, before this said window unit could be enjoyed by all, the wiring needed a little updating.  The updating of the wiring was not enjoyed by all.  It was much more of a project than any could imagine but after a day long ordeal, quite a bit of it without any power, we now completely enjoy said window unit. And I thank my hubby everyday we use it!

We do have a window unit for the tiki but to use that a new outlet needs to be put in and that will need to wait till the roof is finished.  Did I mention the roof?  The Leaky Tiki was named for our roof, sometimes a little more than a leak, more like a waterfall, but steel roofing was ordered, kinda delivered and mostly installed now.  Mostly installed means, in my mind at least, that one of our great Mid-West storms could not even make it leak now, but would kinda like the guys to finish before we test this theory o’mine.

Installing this new roof has made a bit of a mess in the backyard.  Normally it wouldn’t bother me at all, but my lovely daughter, who will be turning 17 on Friday, decided that she would create an invite to her party on Friday night on Facebook. A party, which she conveniently planned without the knowledge of her loving and caring parents.  My plans for her birthday are now thrown out, which would have been great by the way, dinner at Five Guys, which our two youngest kiddies have not had the pleasure of eating at yet, and then Cars 2, which she has been so excited about seeing.  She cleverly told me that she did not promise any food would be served but I am thinking you can’t have a party without food so hot dog bar it will be.  And my loving, sweet  and adorable girl said she will be making her own birthday cake, a Cinderella princess cake, what a sweetie!!

Just noticed it is raining.  Guess I should go check and see if my new roof is working properly.
